Our Brief But Exciting Journey...
We began as a small group bible study in pastor Gary Shockley's home in September of 1999. The intent of the group was to connect with spiritually-sensitive people who had become disillusioned with organized religion and the established church. It grew to include people with a strong church background who had moved into the Cranberry area and were seeking a more progressive and innovative church experience.
Because of steady growth the group began meeting on Sunday mornings for worship and children's activities. Cornerstone officially launched it's public ministry on Easter Sunday 2000.
Since our launch Cornerstone
has moved twice and currently meets at 706/709 Thomson Business
Park in Cranberry Township. Chartered under the United Methodist
Church in 2000 we are a Christian fellowship welcoming people
from all church backgrounds with special sensitivity toward those
with no prior church experience whatsoever!
Our core beliefs are best summarized in the traditional Apostles' Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; on the third day he rose again; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy universal church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. |
